Today, Google had some major issues for about an hour – see here. A few years back, we would just have accepted that a site went down and hope it came back soon. These days, it’s different though! Continue reading Twitter in times of crisis!
Uh oh, looks like something has exploded in the googleplex!! As of about 14:30 GMT today, every Google search result shows the phrase ‘this site may harm your computer’ and blocks you from accessing the site!! Continue reading This site may harm your computer…
How many times have we done this? Working away on an important document, we need to leave quickly so we just hit ‘save’ and go. When we come back to work on the document, you can pretty much guarantee it won’t be in the most recent files any more and you didn’t save it where you should have! My colleagues do this all of the time, and then I’ve got to try and find it for them! Thankfully, there is now a nifty solution. Continue reading Where did I save it? In these days of recession and general economic distress, there are understandably fewer new startup companies emerging, even in the tech world. However, there are still a few emerging. Plinky has just launched it’s new service, which is yet another social networking platform but one with a nice twist. Plinky poses a new question each day to it’s members, so all the posts are each individuals answers to a particular topic. None of the content is likely to be earth shattering, but that’s part of it’s charm, as it’s simple amusement. For example, I don’t use my full name on this web site, although it wouldn’t be that difficult to find it. If I’m on an online forum, I’m careful not to identify my exact home location. I don’t post identifiable personal photos. Continue reading Who am I? Where am I?
Since moving this site from WordPress.com to my own hosted version, I’ve had the fun of being able to customise the site far more. Firstly to explain a bit of background, if you have some of your own webspace (with certain requirements), you can run your own copy of the WordPress software and muck about with it to your heart’s content. Sensibly, you are quite restricted on WordPress.com so that you are unable to ruin other user’s experience by things you might do! If I mess up this site now, it’s just down to me and only ruins my site! Continue reading Themes and Plug-ins
If you are reading this, then you are in an internet browser. The browser is the software program used to access (or browse) all the websites making up the wonderful web! The browser people are most familiar with is probably Internet Explorer, which comes on every Windows PC. Internet Explorer was based on one of the earliest browsers which was licensed by Microsoft and became part of Windows with Windows 95. Not surprisingly, the software has been updated many times, and also competitors have sprung up. Continue reading Browsing Further to my post last week when I talked about using Google Reader to keep up to date with blogs and other sites, the Google Reader team have come up with this rather userful video on the subject, which is ideal for beginners wanting to use [...] |
