What do I use my computer for?
Sometimes it’s scary how much time we spend in front of our computers. At work, many of us spend up to 40-something hours each week sitting in front of a screen. Then we go home and spend hours more at home doing the same!
But what do we actually use the computer for, and how long do we spend? A new tool is available which can tell you exactly what you’ve been up to. A few of these have been available in the past, but generally were limited to which application and bearing in mind most of what we do these days is likely to involve an internet brower, be it Internet Explorer, Firefox or whatever, these didn’t actually tell you much other than that you spend a lot of time on the Internet!
Productivity Meter from Fruitfultime is a small program which you download to your computer which records how much time is spend on each application and, in the case of internet usage, which websites. Currently the personal edition is available as freeware whilst a business edition is being developed and will be available shortly. This could lead to some interesting discussions with Human Resources departments in companies around the world…
I’m going to give it a go – I have yet to decide if I’ll publish the results!
